Roy Jones Junior was born on January 16, 1969, in Florida, USA. He won many amateur titles, boasting a 121-13 record before joining the pro ranks.

Representing the USA at the 1988 Olympic Games, Jones won silver in the light-middleweight category, but his controversial points defeat to local South Korean fighter Park Si-Hun sparked outrage. He was later awarded the Val Barker trophy for the Games’ most stylish boxer.
